2020 Walk and Roll Regional Plan
The Memphis MPO is excited about the adoption of the Walk & Roll: Memphis Region Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan that was adopted in November 2020 by the Transportation Policy Board.

After a yearlong effort that involved, stakeholder & community input, research, data analysis, prioritization, surveys, and other efforts, the plan is now available and ready to serve the Memphis Region with ways to create a safe regional active transportation system.

The Memphis MPO would like to thank everyone involved for their contributions during the development of the plan. You can now access the final plan on the Memphis MPO website. We look forward to hearing how the plan has helped with the shared vision for a better pedestrian and bicycle network that works and connects us all.

Freight Stakeholder Survey
In fall 2020, the Memphis MPO, in coordination with the University of Memphis Intermodal Freight Transportation Institute (IFTI), conducted a Regionwide Freight Stakeholder Survey. The goal of the survey was to capture stakeholders' perceptive on needs, industry trends, and impacts on operations concerning federal mandates and COVID-19 impacts. There were over 100 responses received, with main concerns around the availability of multimodal freight infrastructure, pavement conditions, and congestion causing the cost of delays. MPO Biteable Videos 2020

The Memphis MPO has created a compilation of short educational videos covering variety of topics related to MPOs plans and process. These videos provide information in an Biteable or easily digestible format, making it fun and easy to explore. Biteable(R) is one of many tools in the MPOs toolbox, which is used to engage and inform the public. Check out our YouTube(R) Channel to view all videos in 2020.

Annual Listing of Obligated Projects
Memphis MPO’s Annual Listing of Obligated Projects (ALOP) for fiscal year 2020 is now available. The ALOP features a comprehensive list of regional projects that obligated funds during the federal fiscal year. The content of the Annual Listing of Obligated Projects, is consistent with the project listing in the MPO's TIP. Fund obligations are a measure of the progress being made on a project. FY 2020 total obligation was $190,346,400.73 with both Tennessee and Mississippi road projects having the highest level of funding followed by Transit Projects. TDOT I-40 Corridor Study
The TDOT I-40/81 Multimodal Corridor Study will provide a 20-year, phased set of recommended transportation improvements for the I-40 and I-81 corridors across Tennessee. Its purpose is to provide guidance for decision-makers regarding future projects and to promote coordination with stakeholders on the future of this corridor. On December 9, TDOT held a virtual public meeting for the Region 4 area (of which Memphis MPO area belongs). The presentation and video of the virtual public meeting is can be accessed here. Headlines
The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) and the Transit app today released the APTA Ridership Trends dashboard, a new resource providing up-to-date, week-by-week estimations of public transit ridership for agencies across the United States.

The Federal Highway Administration issued a notice of proposed rulemaking or NPRM on November 24 to allow state departments of transportation “more flexibility” with design standards to repair the nation’s freeways and interstate highways.

Memphis River Parks Partnership hosted a virtual groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, Dec. 9, for construction at Tom Lee Park, which will undergo a $60 million upgrade. The park is being transformed in phases to make it a more attractive amenity for locals and visitors year-round.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) today proposed wide-ranging revisions to the “Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways” (MUTCD) – the first comprehensive update in more than 10 years to advance traffic operations and safety nationwide.

Construction of a new interchange on Interstate 269 at McIngvale Road is underway. Crews continue to perform earthwork at the site in preparation of soil cement stabilization. Crews are also actively installing drainage structures and placing riprap throughout the project site.

Under a pilot program, park employees in Portland, Oregon will conduct trail maintenance using zero-emission bikes that were specifically designed for municipal employees.

The HOPE VI Main Street Program provides grants to small communities to assist in the renovation of a historic or traditional central business district or “Main Street” area by replacing unused, obsolete, commercial space in buildings with affordable housing units.
