Headlines
The U.S. government will require the otherwise quiet vehicles to make noise by September 2020, to alert blind, visually impaired and distracted pedestrians. Each car manufacturer is developing its own sound.

State departments of transportation have scored a major win, with the enactment of legislation that cancels a threatened $7.6-billion cut in federal highway funds, including over $66 million from Tennessee and $50 million from Mississippi.

Nearly every state has a transit agency that now owns—or will soon own—at least one electric bus. Demand for e-buses is outpacing manufacturers' ability to supply them, resulting in hundreds of backlogged orders in the United States.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation and the University of Tennessee Center for Transportation Research are testing out driverless attenuators for improving work zone safety across the state.

The signs highlight a range of issues, from texting and driving to driving under the influence. MDOT hopes the messages have started to draw people's attentions to the signs that they may have otherwise glazed over.

The station will feature four dispensers that connect to a high-powered, 200kW system. The system will allow four vehicles to charge simultaneously and reach 80% battery charge in 20 to 30 minutes.

Program & Funding Opportunities
The Mississippi Department of Transportation has announced the availability of funds for the Section 5311: Rural Areas Program and Section 5310: Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities. Program funds are available on a competitive basis for projects proposing to serve the general public and special needs populations as a part of a local or regional coordinated transportation project.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks has opened the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) 2020 Funding Cycle. The RTP provides funds to the States to develop and maintain recreational trails and trail-related facilities for motorized and non-motorized recreational trail uses.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks has announced the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) 2020 Funding Cycle. The LWCF
provides matching grants to States, and through the States to local units of government, for the acquisition and development of public outdoor recreation sites and facilities.

The Memphis MPO has opened a Call for Projects for Fiscal Year 2020 Transportation Alternative funds in the Tennessee and Mississippi portions of the MPO Planning Area. TA provides funding for programs and projects defined as transportation alternatives.

The USDA Rural Development announced funding for Fiscal Year 2020 is available to agricultural producers and rural small businesses for renewable energy systems and energy efficiency improvements, including solar-assisted electric vehicle charging stations.

The U.S Department of Transportation has released a notice of funding for the State and Local Government Data Analysis Tools for Roadway Safety funding. This opportunity allows partnership between DOT, state, local and Tribal Governments to develop, refine, and implement safety tools that address specific safety problems.
